SUMMARY:Concert for Arty McGlynn
DESCRIPTION:A landmark concert headlined by Matt Molloy and John Carty\, celebrating the career of Omagh’s finest musician\, and also featuring Cathal Hayden; Nollaig Casey; Chris Newman and Maire Ni Chathasaigh; Shane McAleer\, Eamon McElholm. \nThe opportunity to hear Matt Molloy onstage in the hometown of his dear friend and musical collaborator Arty McGlynn is not to be missed. A member of the Bothy Band\, Planxty and the Chieftains\, for a number of years he and John Carty performed and recorded as a trio with Arty McGlynn. \nArty and Nollaig performed together on many international stages and recorded the influential and critically acclaimed albums ‘Lead the Knave’ and ‘Causeway’. Nollaig will be accompanied by Jerome\, who proves that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in providing a startlingly accurate tribute to his father’s artistry. Arty and Nollaig also formed half of the quartet Heartstrings with another genre-defying guitarist Chris Newman and the doyenne of Irish harpers Maire Ni Chathasaigh. \n  \nEamon McElholm formerly of Stockton’s Wing and Solas and Shane McAleer formerly of Dervish are highly respected figures in the Irish Traditional music field\, nationally and internationally. They often played and exchanged musical ideas – and the occasional pint – with Arty\, who was undoubtedly an inspiration to so many younger musicians. \nSpecial Offer: book both nights of Omagh Music Festival for £40

SUMMARY:The Máirtín O’Connor Trio - Dooagh Folk Festival
DESCRIPTION:Since The Mairtin O’Connor Trio’s first performance in Sligo in the early 2000s \, they’ve toured worldwide as well as making two critically acclaimed recordings\, “Crossroads” and “Going Places.” Their path has taken them from the Sydney Opera House to New York’s Symphony Space Centre as part of Martin Hayes’ Masters Of Tradition concerts. They also toured central and eastern Europe with the legendary Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel and have played their own gigs in Ireland\, Britain\, Europe\, The United States\, Canada\, Australia and New Zealand to ecstatic receptions from audiences. They have also accompanied Irish folk hero Christy Moore on numerous concerts as well as guesting on three of his more recent recordings. Described aptly as “Irish traditional music’s power house trio”\, their live performance is a virtual whirlwind tour from deep within the heart of the Irish musical traditions right to the edges of its outer limits. Mairtin O’Connor’s own musical history encompasses a hugely influential spell with De Danann\, Midnight Well\, Skylark\, and a spell playing with the inaugural performances of the long renowned Riverdance show. He’s also collaborated with Mark Knopfler\, Tanita Tikaram\, The Contempo Quartet\, The RTE Concert Orchestra and countless others. And through the release of ground-breaking albums such as The Connachtman’s Rambles\, Perpetual Motion\, Chatterbox\, The Road West and Rain Of Light\, his own renowned accordion wizardry and composing have become the stuff of Irish music legend. Mairtin\, who has received many accolades and awards in recognition of his musical talent\, is easily one of the finest all-round musicians that Ireland has ever produced. Cathal Hayden needs no introduction to anyone even remotely aware of traditional Irish music. An All-Ireland champion on fiddle as well as banjo\, an enduring and much cited inspiration for emerging traditional musicians and a founder member of super group Four Men and a Dog\, Cathal has also founded an excellent fiddle based group with his brother Stephen and brilliant young Armagh fiddler Niall Murphy called The Bow Brothers. He has also collaborated with members of American folk legends The Band and countless other artists both in and outside of the musical traditions of Ireland.. And to top it all off\, Four Men and a Dog were name checked in a Billy Connolly sketch!!! Multi-instrumentalist Seamie O’Dowd made his first radio appearance playing music at the age of ten and played on a BBC documentary about Scottish folk legend Dick Gaughan when he was fifteen. Seamie has carved out a solid reputation as one of Ireland’s finest musicians. He toured the world for six years as a member of Sligo supergroup Dervish\, as well as playing with Liam O’Flynn\, The Chieftains\, Mary Mac Partlan\, Thom Moore\, Sligo pianist Kieran Quinn and many others. Seamie has also worked as a producer and session musician on a number of critically acclaimed recordings. He was nominated for the Best Folk Instrumentalist award at the inaugural RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards in 2018 and was given the American Celtic Listener Supported Radio Music Award for Best Male Musician in 2022.
